Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing Tech, recently hinted at Android 14 for the Nothing Phone 1, and the company is preparing for an Android 14 beta program. However, users on the stable version will still receive monthly software updates which is really great. The latest update, Nothing OS 1.5.4 OTA, is a significant one that includes network optimization, fingerprint improvements, support for the new NDot Cyrillic font, a QR code scanner in the camera app, bug fixes, and other enhancements.
One of the most notable additions in the Nothing OS 1.5.4 update is an easier way for users to provide feedback to the software team. Users can now send feedback by navigating to “Settings > System > Feedback,” allowing Nothing to gather valuable feedback from users and make improvements to the OS based on their needs and preferences. This feature can be beneficial for both users and Nothing.
Additionally, the company has reduced standby power consumption by optimizing the 4G to 5G network switching function, resulting in lower power consumption when the phone is in standby mode. This improvement will help extend the device’s battery life in the long run.
The Nothing OS 1.5.4 update also includes optimized Bluetooth functions in Quick Settings, allowing for faster access to paired devices. The QR code scanning feature has been improved, enabling users to scan UPI QR codes directly through the camera app and select a payment app on their device to complete the transaction (this feature may be limited to India).
The fingerprint pattern unlocking experience has also been enhanced, providing greater accuracy and reliability. Pop-up view animations are now smoother, offering a more seamless user experience. The update also integrates the Google Safety Center in the phone.
Additionally, a new NDot Cyrillic font has been added, which is useful for users who communicate in Belarusian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Russian, Serbian, and Ukrainian languages.
The update also addresses several bugs, including freeze issues during Pop-up view, improved notification display in Quick Settings, error messages during face unlock setup, and improved time-stamp accuracy for photos. The update has a size of 119 MB and can be downloaded from the provided link.
